Web27 Oct 2024 · Sciatica is a general term describing any shooting pain that begins at the spine and travels down the leg. The most common cause is a herniated or "slipped" disc in the lower spine. This means some of the cushioning material inside the disc has been forced outward, pressing on a nerve root. WebThe psoas muscle is located in the lower lumbar region of the spine and extends through the pelvis to the femur. This muscle works by flexing the hip joint and lifting the upper leg towards the body. A common example of the movement created from this muscle is walking. Psoas syndrome is a very rare condition.
